Plumber Run Over During Dispute in Verulam

A 38-year-old man was hospitalised after he was run over on Aaman Circle in Sanna Township – Verulam a short while ago.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by residents who heard the man screaming for assistance. Upon arrival he explained that he is a self-employed plumber and was working at a clients home. He then proceeded to the end of the road to open the valve on the water meter.

A VW Golf with lowered suspension stopped and the Indian male driver questioned the plumber as to what he was doing in the area. When he provided an explanation the driver began verbally abusing him and asked him not to loiter in the area. The two men began arguing when the driver of the VW Golf got back into his vehicle and ran him over. The vehicle then sped off. An Indian female and a child were passengers in the vehicle.

According to the victim the driver of the vehicle is known to him and is allegedly a gangster from Phoenix. Residents claimed that he has family in the area and was on his way to uplift his nephew when the incident occurred. The victim was treated for a compound fracture to his left leg before being transported to Osindisweni Hospital.

He informed Reaction Officers that he will be laying criminal charges against the driver of the VW Golf after he is discharged from hospital.
