Tip-off leads to arrests and removal of unlicensed firearms from the streets in KwaMakhutha

On 10 July 2018, at 17:05, the members of the SAPS acted on an intelligence-driven information about the suspects who were planning to commit a crime.

The members went to a taxi rank in KwaMakhutha searching for the suspects who were also in possession of unlicensed firearms.

Two suspects were approached while stationary in their vehicle. A search was conducted and the suspects were found to be in possession of an R5 rifle, two pistols, a grinder, an electric extension cords and gloves. They were also found in possession of various assorted rounds of ammunition (60 rounds). The recovered firearms will be profiled in order to establish if it can be linked to any other crimes committed in the province or in the country. The suspects aged 19 and 46 were placed under arrest.

They are appearing today in the Nsimbini Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They were remanded in custody until 16 July 2018 for a formal bail application.
