Duo arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition

As part of discouraging all crimes by providing a proactive and responsive policing, police in Madikwe arrested two suspects aged 41 and 50 for illegal possession of firearms on Monday, 20 August 2018.

The suspects were arrested after the police responded to a tip-off that the suspects were in possession of illegal firearms on the Tlokweng Road. The suspects’ vehicle was ultimately spotted and stopped for a search. While searching the vehicle, the police found five firearms, three hand guns, one shotgun and a rifle inside a bag. The suspects were apprehended after failing to account for the firearms.

The duo is expected to appear in the Madikwe Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, 22 August 2018 for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane applauded the police for their swift reaction that led to the success. She said that disarming suspects as it happened in this case, will contribute towards reduction of serious crime which is inclusive of contact crime and property related crime.
