Gelvandale police arrest hijacking suspects

Two hijacking suspects were arrested within 5 hours after they allegedly hijacked a 36-year-old man in Shauderville during the early hours of this morning, 31 July 2018.

It is alleged that at about 00:30, the complainant stopped in Zoza Street in Shauderville to drop off a friend when four males were seen in the road. Two males approached him and one of them removed the keys from the ignition while the other choked him from the back seat until he lost consciousness. The men left him in the road and drove off in his Golf 3 vehicle.

When the complainant regained consciousness together with his friend they went looking for his car. The two suspects are known to him. When their efforts proved futile, they flagged down a patrolling police vehicle and reported the matter. The police officers had seen the car earlier in the morning. The police officers took the complainant and drove back to where they saw the vehicle. At about 06:00, the vehicle was spotted in Durban Road with the two suspects in the car. They were arrested and detained on a charge of vehicle hijacking.

The suspects, aged 26 and 28 will appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 01 August 2018.
