National Commemoration Day

On 2 September 2018, the SAPS will pay tribute to our fallen foot soldiers who lost their lives in the course of their challenging duties.

These colleagues in blue, aware of the dangers associated with policing, fully committed themselves to serving and protecting the communities of South Africa. In this process, they paid the highest price for their dedication and patriotism, that of their own lives. This is the selfless, undying commitment that police officers have to protect and serve.
The members we will pay tribute to, were the noble defenders of our nation and we salute and honour them for their courage and dedication.

Final Salute for:
Warrant Officer Z Mbini – 23 years’ service
Constable S Sandlana – 10 years’ service
Constable N Ntsheku – 9 years’ service
Constable N Pongco – 1 year service
Constable K Mateta – 1 year service

On 21 February 2018, the above members were on duty at the Engcobo Police Station helping the community members in the Community Service Centre when they were suddenly taken by surprise by armed men who brutally shot and killed them.
