Police condemn violence in schools following the death of a learner

The Police in Limpopo condemn the violent behaviour of some leaners and the carrying of dangerous weapons into school premises.

This condemnation follows an incident that occurred at Nkatini High School at Shigalo village near Malamulele outside Giyani, where an 18-year-old learner was allegedly stabbed to death by his classmate, also aged 18. The incident took place on Wednesday, 22 August 2018 at 12h00 midday.

It is alleged that the two had a fight during school hours and later, the suspect produced a sharp object and stabbed his school mate to death. The police were summoned, responded immediately and started with their initial investigations. The suspect was subsequently arrested on the spot. The murder weapon was also confiscated.

The suspect will appear before Malamulele Magistrate Court on Frida, 24 August 2018, facing a charge of murder.

The SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba is saddened by this incident, especially at the manner in which the life of a young man was lost within the schooling environment.

“We call upon parents and guardians to join hands with the police and educators, to ensure that schools remain a safe environment at all times”, concluded General Ledwaba.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
