Four arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms

same day at about 04h00, a 52-year-old man was arrested for possession of a 9mm pistol, 3 magazines and 85 rounds of ammunition. He was arrested at Bhongweni locality in Mthatha.

They further proceeded to Hillcrest at about 06h00 and arrested two men with ages 53 and 60 years for possession of a Shotgun and 5 shells.

Yesterday the 13 September 2018, the team arrested a 23 and 51 year old man for possession of a shotgun in Qumbu at about 16h00. They were arrested when their white Mercedes Benz was searched which was also confiscated.

All the shotguns are believed to have been robbed from Fidelity Security Guards during a cash heist in Mt Frere on the 03 September 2018.

All suspects will appear before Mthatha and Qumbu Magistrate courts soon facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession and dealing in dagga.

The firearms will be sent for ballistic testing.

“Let’s confiscate all these illegal firearms and save people’s lives. I applaud you for this confiscation and arrest,” commented the Acting Cluster Commander Brigadier Nomawethu Makonza.
