October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. On 18 October 2018 members from SAPS Kwanobuhle hosted a breast cancer awareness campaign at their station. Reverend Williams conducted a candle light service in honour of friends, family and colleagues who was diagnosed with the illness.
On 23 October 2018, the Women’s Network in the Uitenhage Cluster hosted a candle light service in honour of those family members, friends and colleagues who have lost their lives, who have survived and those who are still fighting the disease. Capt Anna Janse van Vuuren from Social Work Services addressed the attendees and emphasized the fact that we are one family who must be there for one another.
“It is important to take small steps every day to make every day count”.
On 25 October 2018 the Uitenhage Cluster Men for Change hosted a fun 5km walk to create awareness about cancer. More than 110 SAPS employees participated in the walk and wore different funny pink outfits in support of the fight against cancer.
