One person was killed in a collision involving two vehicles on the north bound lane of the R102 at the Canelands intersection tonight (Saturday).
At approximately 19:49 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by a passing motorist reporting the incident. Upon arrival it was established that a VW Polo had collided head on into the back of a Hyundai ix35.
The 42 year old driver of the VW Polo was killed in the collision. The jaws of life had to be used to extricate his body from his extensively damaged vehicle.
According to the driver of the Hyundai ix35 he was travelling in the direction of Ballito when he noticed the VW Polo in his rear view mirror approaching at high speed and attempting to change lanes. He then swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision however the VW Polo slammed into the back of his vehicle.
The three occupants of the Hyundai ix35 were not injured.
