The Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) together with Wynberg Vispol disrupted an illegal medicine distribution worth one million rand through an intelligence led operation on Wednesday 17 October 2018.
The investigation team arrested the suspect (62) at Kenilworth’s Post Office after he handed in envelopes containing schedule medicines that were destined for the United States of America (USA).
Preliminary investigation led to a search and seizure at suspect’s premises in Kenilworth. Another 54-year old suspect was arrested at the premises upon uncovering more alleged schedule medicine and documentation of order-trails for countries such as USA, UK and Sweden, packaging kits as well as the vehicle used in the commission of crime were seized.
Subsequently, a couple was arrested and are expected to appear at Wynberg Magistrates Court today on a charges of contravention with the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act 101 of 1965 as amended read with the Drug and Drug Trafficking Act 140/1992.
