As part of the activation of October Transport Month in the Harry Gwala District Municipality, the District MEC OSS Champion Ravigasen Pillay and District Mayor Cllr Mluleki Ndobe, District Deputy Mayor Cllr Duma and Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Municipality Acting Mayor Cllr P Shange officiated at various activities.
The activities included a roadblock at the Sani Pass Land Port of Entry between the Republic of South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho. They were joined by Home Affairs’ Immigration Officials and members of the SA Police Service and SA National Defence Force.
The entourage also inspected transport infrastructure including P318 road presently undergoing construction and several bridges. Thereafter, the entourage embarked on a Thuma Mina Safety Walk in the Central Business District of Underberg visiting an intermodal transport facility, which is a minibus taxi rank servicing local commuters and Basotho nationals. The MEC and the Mayor’s distributed flyers to commuters and the public at large creating awareness on safety ahead of the imminent festive season.
