MEC Kaunda to kick off October transport month in Durban

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda, will officially unveil the programmes and campaigns for the 2018 October Transport Month in Durban on Thursday (4 October 2018).

With this launch, government aims to showcase and cement the commitment it made to the people of KwaZulu-Natal of ensuring safety on the roads and within communities, law enforcement and rolling out infrastructure development within communities, particularly in rural areas. The department is also expected to highlight how these infrastructure projects have empowered emerging black contractors, youth and women.

MEC Kaunda is expected to outline activities that the department will embark upon jointly with strategic stakeholders, government entities and other spheres of government. These activities will be setting the tone for an integrated festive season safety plan. He will also give a brief report on the intervention of the provincial government on the operation of trains in the province.

MEC Kaunda will be accompanied by the Mayor of Ethekwini, Cllr Zandile Gumede, Mayors from other districts, Amakhosi, Members of the Transport and Community Safety portfolio committees, SANTACO, Interfaith and other stakeholders within the transport sector.
