Suspect arrested in Strand with a prohibited firearm

The quick response of members attached to Strand police resulted in the arrest of a suspect with a prohibited firearm during the early hours of yesterday morning. The members were patrolling 9th Street in Strand when a suspicious male person drew their attention. The man made an attempt to flee, but he was apprehended and found to be in possession of a 9mm pistol without a serial number, and five rounds of ammunition. He is due to make a court appearance in Strand today.

In an unrelated matter, a security officer in Gordons Bay arrested a suspect for being in possession of abalone valued at around R450 000-00 last night. Once charged, this suspect is due to make a court appearance in Strand too.
