26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of killing a woman at Extension 08, in Mhluzi near Middelburg.
The arrest came as a result of an investigation launched by police after they were summoned to a scene where the body of a woman was discovered by passers-by, this morning at approximately 06:30. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered that it was the body of a woman with her head covered with a plastic bag and the rest of her body was wrapped in a blanket. The woman was declared dead by paramedics who were summoned to the scene and a case of murder was opened. Police then launched an investigation following all possible clues, which led them to Tshwane in Gauteng, where they arrested the suspect.
So far the motive for the murder is not known as yet however through preliminary investigation it was established that the victim was killed at a different place, then dragged and dumped where she was found. Police further discovered that she may have been torched with a hot plate and stabbed/cut with a sharp objects on the body. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death and for further investigation.
The suspect will appear at the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of murder. So far the victim is yet to be identified and police urge anyone who might have been looking for a missing family member, a woman in her late twenties, to come forward.
