Yesterday, 23 October 2018, detectives from the Provincial Taxi Task Team and KwaDukuza SAPS arrested three suspects aged between 27 and 43 for double murder and attempted murder. It is alleged that on 22 October 2018 at 21:00, a 27-year-old taxi driver, Mlungisi Maphumulo was in his place of residence in Hazelmere, Verulam when three suspects stormed into his house and fatally shot him. The suspects fled the scene with their getaway vehicle. A case of murder was opened at Verulam police station.
In the early hours of 23 October 2018, two men believed to be involved in the murder of a taxi driver in Verulam were allegedly shot dead by unknown suspects while travelling in their blue Toyota Condor on the N2 freeway, just after KwaDukuza turn-off. An intensive investigation was conducted and three suspects were quickly arrested. The members confiscated the suspects’ three licensed firearms with 45 rounds of ammunition. All three suspects appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrates’ Court today and were each granted a bail of R1500-00. Their case was remanded to 10 January 2019 for further investigation.
