Following the gruesome finding of the body of the 60-year-old Mountain Sipho Taule in an open field next to Mti Street, Govan Mbeki locality, police arrested the 22-year-old son that was sought by Kwadwesi detectives.
The arrest was made after community members in the area spotted him in a nearby street at about 15:30 yesterday and handed him over to patrolling police in the area.
By 19:00 last night the suspect confessed to the murders and lead police to the grave where he buried the mother, 55 year old Jeanette Taule. Her body was not burnt like the father.
Initial reports by community stated that the suspect was mentally challenged, however detectives have found him alert and responsive during questioning but suspects that he is drug user. He will be appearing before the New Brighton Magistrates Court on 12 October on two charges of murder and for the senior state prosecutors to decide if further evaluation of the suspect will be required.
The Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie has expressed his appreciation towards the community for not taking the law into their own hands. “The alertness of the community lead police to uncover this double murder. The suspect will be brought before court to face the consequences of his actions” he added.
