Police arrest house and vehicle robbery suspect following a shootout, accomplices sought

Quick response from members of the Mount Road OCC members resulted in the arrest of a house robbery suspect and the recovery of the stolen motor vehicle during the early hours of this morning, 13 November 2018.

It is alleged that at about 00:30 this morning, the 28-year-old complainant was awakened by a noise in his lounge. On further investigation, he was confronted by three unknown persons inside his flat in Windermere Street Humewood. He was threatened at knifepoint and ordered to lie on the floor. The suspects took clothing and the complainant’s VW Golf 7 GTI vehicle and drove off. About half an hour later, members of Mount Road OCC spotted the vehicle in Standford and Chase Streets and a chase ensued. The suspects fired several shots at the police who retaliated. A 33-year-old suspect was wounded in his upper body and hand. The other two suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. One member narrowly escaped injury when a bullet grazed his shirt. The vehicle has been confiscated by police for further investigation. It is alleged that the suspects gained entry to the ground floor flat by entering through a semi-opened balcony window.

Police are investigating a case of house robbery and attempted murder. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
