Search operations in Nyanga and Khayelitsha led to the arrest of four suspects with unlicensed firearms

“If you are illegally in possession of a firearm, we are going to arrest you”, said the Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lt Gen KE Jula after members of the Provincial Reaction Team arrested four suspects with three unlicensed firearms in Nyanga and Khayelitsha last night. The search and seizure operation took members of SAPS to Bathwali Street in Unathi, Nyanga where a suspect was arrested with a 9mm pistol without a serial number and five rounds of ammunition. From there they proceeded to Ngabangaba Street where two suspects, a male and a female were arrested for being in possession of an AK47 assault rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition. In Site B in Khayelitsha a suspect was arrested with another unlicensed firearm.

Once charged, the four suspects are due to make court appearances in Athlone and Khayelitsha respectively.
