Suspect arrested on charges of kidnapping, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of a prohibited firearm in Grassy Park

On Monday 2018-11-12, at about 04:30, the complainant, a taxi driver, was threatened by an armed unknown male, whilst driving down Buck Road, Lotusriver, Grassy Park.

The suspect demanded cash from the complainant, where after, the complainant drove to his fellow taxi drivers and they managed to overpower the suspect and retrieved the firearm.

The suspect (24), the firearm with its serial number filed off, a 9mm, 11 rounds of ammunition, one magazine were handed over to SAPS Grassy Park.

The suspect will face charges of kidnapping, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of a prohibited firearm, where after he will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on related charges.

In an unrelated incident on Friday, 2018-11-09 at about 21:30 SAPS members responded to complaint of domestic violence. Upon arrival, the suspect’s sister mentioned that he threatened her with a firearm at their residence in Zeekoevlei.

She managed to take the firearm from him, and she immediately handed it over to the members when they arrived on the scene. Upon further searching of the premises, two more firearms were found and handed in as exhibits at Grassy Park SAPS. The 40-year-old suspect do not have a license for the firearms as it belonged to his parents.

He was arrested on charges of pointing of a firearm (domestic violence related), possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of unlicensed ammunition.

The suspect appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on related charges on Monday, 2018-11-12.
