MEC Kaunda sends condolences to the Mabuza family and pleads with road users to Obey the Rules of the Road

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of Joseph Mabuza, the spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety and Liaison in Mpumalanga province who passed away yesterday in a motorcycle crash.

Police reported that as Mabuza was driving back from Lebombo border where they were conducting a law enforcement operation, a driver of a barkkie executed a U-turn on a busy road, in a process causing a serious crash which fatally wounded Mabuza.

“Our thoughts are with the family of Mabuza, the MEC for Community Safety in Mpumalanga, Pat Ngomane and the entire provincial government during this difficult time of bereavement,” said Kaunda.

As many people will be travelling to various destination to spend Christmas with their loved ones tomorrow, Kaunda urged road users, motorists and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution on the road and abide by the road rules.

“Our law enforcement officers will be on high alert on all busy roads in the province to ensure that those who are breaking the road rules face the full might of the law. As part of the integrated festive season safety plan, we are also interacting with road users in shopping malls and taxi ranks to create awareness about road safety. Therefore we urge the people of KwaZulu-Natal and visitors to join hands with government so that our plan can yield positives results. It is though collective effort that we can defeat road carnage and crime in our communities,” said Kaunda who is today accompanying the Minister of Police Bheki Cele on a crime and road safety blitz at various shopping malls in the province.
