Police hot on the heels of criminals this festive season and beyond

Suspects were arrested in separate incidents of housebreaking and attempted housebreaking during the early hours of yesterday’s morning, Friday, 21 December 2018.

In the first incident, at about 00:05 on 21 December 2018, K9 unit members were patrolling in Durban Road Korsten when they noticed two males climbing out of a shop window with goods. As they stopped, the suspects started running. The patrol dog tackled one suspect (+- 20-years-old)) and he was subsequently arrested. He is expected to appear in court soon on a charge of housebreaking. The stolen items, cutlery and light bulbs were found in his possession.

In another incident, two attempted housebreaking suspects were arrested by SAPS Gelvandale members at about 01:30, yesterday morning, 21 December 2018. The alarm at a retail shop in Durban Road was activated and Gelvandale police immediately responded. The suspects aged 36 and 32 were arrested not far from the crime scene. They were detained on charges of attempted housebreaking and theft. They have appeared in court yesterday, 21 December 2018.

The Provincial Gang Investigation Unit arrested a 26-year-old attempted murder suspect after he handed himself over to police on Thursday, 20 December 2018. It is alleged that on Sunday, 25 November 2018 at about 20:00, the complainant (20) was walking on the road in Salt Lake when the suspect passed him. As he passed him, he pulled out a firearm and shot the complainant in his stomach. The incident is gang related and suspect will appear in court today, 21 December 2018.

Mount Road Cluster Commander, Major General Thembisile Patekile has warned criminals that ‘we will be clamping down on them during this festive period. We have adopted a zero tolerance in our approach of ensuring a safe and secure festive season for our communities. We will continue to ensure high density visibility of uniformed officers on foot and in vehicles during this period and beyond.’
