Adoption enquiries for abandoned baby in Durban

Reaction Unit South Africa have In the passed 24 hours received approx 420 telephonic & social media enquiries from the public regarding the adoption of the new born baby boy (pictured) that was found in a knotted refuse bag earlier yesterday (Monday). Several emails were also received from the USA, London, Portugal & other parts of Europe offering to adopt the baby. RUSA will be directing all enquiries to the social worker allocated this case. The public is requested to contact the relevant authorities directly regarding this matter & RUSA cannot confirm if the child is up for adoption.

Update: The father of child has been identified. The mother is currently in Police custody on charges of Attempted Murder & Child Abandonment. She is awaiting a court appearance for a bail application.

According to a nurse at Osindisweni Government Hospital, the baby had picked up an infection this afternoon and is receiving treatment.

RUSA Members have received several anonymous phone calls from family members of the suspect following her arrest. The telephonic calls were an attempt to intimidate Reaction Officers.
