Police searching for suspect following fatal shooting in Thornhill

Detectives from the South African Police Service in Thornhill are investigating a fatal shooting of a 36-year-old woman last night, 30 January 2019, in Thornhill.

It is alleged that the 36-year-old woman was at her home in Tekana Street, Phase 2, Thornhill when she heard a knock on the door at about 22:35. An unknown male approached her on the pretence to sell cement. The woman informed the man that she was not interested, she closed the door and the unknown male walked away. It is further alleged that the same unknown male returned a few minutes later and knocked on the door again. When the 36-year-old woman opened the door for the second time, the suspect fired a shot, fatally wounding the 36-year-old woman.

The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage. Detectives are following up on all possible leads. The name of the victim will be released after her next-of-kin was informed and she was formally identified. 
Police is appealing to the community to assist them in their investigation.
