Robbery suspects arrested during intelligence driven operation

An intelligence driven operation has led to the arrest of five (5) suspects aged between 23 and 37 years of age and the recovery of three (3) firearms with ammunition. This follows an incident where five (5) suspects stormed a supermarket at Amalinda, East London on Monday, 21 January 2019 and held staff at gunpoint, demanding cash. They made off with an undisclosed amount of cash in a getaway vehicle, no shots were fired and no injuries.

The arrest comes as a relief to the Cambridge station commander, Brigadier Pumla Mdlankomo who has been spending sleepless nights since this incident and has praised the swift action of the team that she has tasked to tackle this case.

They will all appear before the East London Magistrate’s court on Monday, 28 January 2019 facing charges of business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Some of the suspects have already been linked to other crimes through fingerprints like house robbery and theft and our investigators are working hard on linking others.
