Intelligence led Anti Gang Unit operation in Bishop Lavis nabs another armed suspect

Bishop Lavis: In the quest to rid the streets of Bishop Lavis of gang violence and its manifestations, Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) members armed with valuable information conducted a search operation in Valhala Park this afternoon. They searched four males between the ages of 22 and 24. A 22-year-old suspect was found in possession of a 9mm Barretta pistol (serial number filed off), a magazine and 9mm rounds of ammunition. He was subsequently arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court soon.

Valhala Park and Kalksteenfontein have seen scenes of sporadic shooting incidents. It is on this basis the Anti-Gang Unit and Bishop Lavis police have intensified operations in the precinct. This is the second firearm to be confiscated by the Unit today. Earlier in the day, another unlicensed firearm was seized in Ravensmead. Since Sunday (2019/02/03), three firearms were seized in Bishop Lavis.
