A huge R260 000 prize purse, new Young Bull and Old Bull racing categories, and the chance to see downhill mountain bike legend Greg Minnaar in action, all combine to add vim and to the Knysna Bull made personal by Constantia Insurance mountain bike race in 2019.
This week, on Wednesday 20 February, the Knysna Bull made personal by Constantia Insurance mountain bike race will take place in South Africa’s iconic Garden Route town.
The lagoon-side town of Knysna is the perfect host for a mountain bike event that offers riders the chance to race and relax. Like the town itself, there is something for everyone at the Knysna Bull.
The newest innovations at the event include the Young Bull and Old Bull race categories.
Already offering a whopping R100 000 winner-takes-all for the first male and first female rider home, the Knysna Bull is now offering a healthy prize purse of R60 000 for riders between the ages of 18 and 23. The first male Young Bull rider will receive R10 000 prize money, as will the first female Young Bull Rider.
In the Old Bull race category, riders aged 60 and over will be able to race for glory – and that’s no bull. Now a solo-rider only event, the racing at the Knysna Bull should be hotly contested amongst all categories. Riders can look forward to immaculate forest trails, including the famous Harkerville Forest mountain bike routes, and to their afternoons at the race village – the Knysna Waterfront.
On top of the exciting prize purse and intriguing race categories, the Knysna Bull will also host the three-time UCI Downhill World Cup champion and three-time UCI Downhill World Championship winner Greg Minnaar.
The legendary downhill star – the only man in the sport with 22 World Cup DH race wins to his name – will be showing Knysna Bull entrants how it’s done on two of the event’s “Bull Runs”.
To round of the multi-faceted multi-day mountain bike race, participants will also stand a chance to ride off with a Santa Cruz Blur.
Every rider who completes the Knysna Bull will go into a lucky draw to stand a chance of winning this trail-thumping bicycle. The winner will be announced at the final event dinner – the Bull Bash – where all finishers will also receive their Thule laptop bags and where the R260 000 in prize money will be presented.
