Suspect nabbed and explosives and firearms were recovered

 In a crime intelligence driven operation, King Williams Town Flying Squad together with K9 Unit Police members, recovered hand grenade and firearms, one suspect was arrested.

On 18 February 2019 at about 12h30, Police followed an information they received about explosives allegedly kept in a house at Zwartberg Street, West Bank, King Williams Town. On arrival, Police members searched the yard and recovered an empty cash box and a shotgun. Thorough investigation led Police to a house and, upon searching, they recovered hand grenade and 9mm pistol with a magazine hidden in a small bag. A 27-year-old male was arrested and charged for possession of explosives and unlicensed firearms.

He will appear at King Williams Town Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

The King Williams Town Cluster Commander, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga appreciated the swift response by Police after information sharing by community. He thanked the community for sharing valuable information that led to the recovery of explosives and firearms this prevented crime, he added.
