Drunk driver arrested in Ottawa

A drunk driver who fled the scene of an accident was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa this afternoon (Monday).

At approximately 17:05 the RUSA Operations Centre received a call from a motorist reporting a hit and run on Tottenham Road in Ottawa. The caller explained that a Toyota Hiace taxi drove onto the pavement and ran over three pedestrians. The vehicle fled towards the R102.

Reaction Officers were on patrol in the area and managed to stop the taxi at the Ottawa intersection. The driver was heavily intoxicated and when removed from the vehicle was barely able to stand. Officers placed him under arrest and handed him over to the Verulam SAPS.

The three female pedestrians were treated for moderate injuries before being transported to Osindisweni Hospital.
