Vigilant police removed two Illegal firearms in Hillview

Muizenberg police participated in efforts to ensure safety of the community. While they were patrolling in the Vrygrond area yesterday, 04 March 2019 at 23:55, they acted on information they received about a suspect who was in possession of a firearm. Members proceeded to the address at Pilansberg Road, Vrygrond. A thorough search was conducted in the premises and they found a Browning 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition, in a dustbin. On further investigation it was determined that the serial number of the firearm had been removed. A 35-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested and detained on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of ammunition.

In another incident at 00:05, SAPS members observed two suspicious men walking in Gladiola Street Hillview, one of them was seen discarding what appeared to be a firearm. The suspect was arrested and a CZ 9mm short pistol was recovered with two rounds of ammunition. The suspect, a 21-year-old man was arrested and charged for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Both suspects will appear in the Muizenberg Magistrates Court once they are charged.
