Five suspects aged between 30 and 46 were arrested this morning, 2019-04-04 at about 03h30 during a joint intelligence driven operation comprised of Modimolle Cluster Trio Crime Task Team, the Crime Intelligence Unit, the National Intervention Unit from Pretoria and the Heritage Protection Group.

The suspects were arrested along the N1 South near Kranskop Tollgate. During the arrest, three (03) firearms and 31 rounds of ammunition were seized, including the motor vehicle they were travelling in.

This breakthrough was made as part of the ongoing clean-up operations to eliminate all forms of criminality along this road.

The suspects have already been linked to eleven (11) cases of armed robberies and one murder which they allegedly committed along the N1 road in the Bela-Bela and Modimolle Policing areas. They will be charged with additional charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and racketeering under the prevention of Organised Crime Act.

The origin of the recovered motor vehicle, firearms and ammunition is still being determined by the ongoing Police investigations. The suspects will appear before the Bela-Bela and Modimolle Magistrate’s Courts soon.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has welcomed this milestone achievement and has commended the SAPS members who participated during this operation for the excellent service rendered in eradicating all criminal activities along the N1 road.
