KwaZulu-Natal: At 13H44 Monday afternoon Netcare 911 responded to reports of a collision on the E Central Arterial Road in Birdswood Richards Bay.
Reports from the scene indicate that a light motor vehicle was well alight next to the road.
Witnesses at the scene alleged the vehicle with one occupant caught alight while still on the road, the car veered off down an embankment where the fire continued to rage on.
Once the Fire and Rescue Services had extinguished the flames, the body of an unknown person was found burned beyond recognition.
There was nothing visible on the vehicle to indicate that a collision had taken place.
Circumstances leading up to vehicle fire and subsequent death of the driver will be investigated by the SAPS who were on the scene.
