A Taxi and bakkie collided in the Umkomaas Valley injuring four

Two male drivers are in a serious condition following a head-on collision between a bakkie and a taxi on the R56 in the Umkomaas river valley area between Richmond and Ixopo late this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics were on the scene with a number of other services at 16:42. The drivers of both vehicles were found entrapped and two other passengers, who had suffered only minor injuries, had managed to free themselves.

The Fire department, assisted by ER24, extracted the two seriously injured males, believed to be in their 30s, before administering Advanced Life Support interventions. One was transported by us to Edendale Hospital and the other by another service to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg. The two passengers declined transport.

SAPS and RTI were on the scene for further investigations.
