Alberton drug manufacturing suspect granted bail

The 42-year-old Yue Gong was granted R2000 bail on Wednesday, 19 June 2019 by the Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court after she was arrested for running a drug manufacturing plant in the garage of her Brackenhurst house.
A joint operation by the Gauteng Hawks’ Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB), the Johannesburg Flying Squad and South African Health Product Regulatory (SAHPRA) unearthed a clandestine pharmaceuticals manufacturing facility on Monday, 17 June 2019 following a tip-off about a large number of boxes being transported both in and out of the residence.
The products being manufactured are mainly male and female enhancement products and weight loss products, but there are also other pharmaceuticals being made at the site. Most the products are believed to have already invaded Gauteng retail stores and it is also suspected that other parts of the country might be affected.
Investigations are already taking place to ascertain the distribution channels. The estimated value of the illegal products confiscated on Monday is estimated at around R3 Million but it is projected that the number might escalate as investigations continue.
Gong faces charges of contravening Sections 14 and 22 of the Medicines and related Substance Act 101 of 1965 which prohibits the manufacturing of may drugs or medicines without the personal supervision of a pharmacist whilst other medicines only had one language which poses a high health risk to the public. She is expected back in court on 16 August 2019 pending further investigations.
