A 66-year-old man is in a critical condition after apparently collapsing behind the wheel and colliding with a tree on The Avenue, Henley On Klip near Vereeniging this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived at 13:50 to find the man still in his light motor vehicle, having lost a lot of blood. Advanced Life Support interventions were used to stabilise the patient before airlifting him with the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter to a private hospital in Alberton.

The Fire and Traffic Departments, as well as SAPS, were on the scene helping to secure the area and investigate further.
