Driver Killed After Vehicle Crashes Into Barrier along the R102, Verulam

A man was killed and two other people were injured after the vehicle they were traveling in crashed into a metal barrier on the R102 near the King Shaka International Airport intersection tonight (Saturday).

At approximately 18:56 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the scene after receiving multiple calls from passing motorists requesting assistance for the injured. Upon arrival a red Opel Corsa Lite was found lying on its side.

The driver of the vehicle was critically injured. Medics attempted to resuscitate him however due to the extent of his injuries he died at the scene. A front seat passenger was seriously injured and had to be extricated from the vehicle. A second passenger suffered minor injuries and managed to free himself from the wreckage. The injured were stabilized on scene before being transported to hospital by ambulance. Circumstances surrounding the accident are still unclear.

This is the third life claimed in three separate single vehicular accidents that occurred on the R102 between King Shaka International Airport and the Ottawa intersection today.
