Family locked in a bathroom during a robbery in Tongaat

Seven people including a child were locked in a bathroom during a house robbery in Tongaat – KZN.

Reaction Unit South Africa Tongaat Operations Center received a call from one of the victims reporting the robbery. Reaction Officers were dispatched to the residence and upon arrival established that three suspects had gained entry into the home through a security gate that was unlocked.

The suspects, who were armed with firearms rounded up seven people who were in the home and locked them in the bathroom while they ransacked the home in search of valuables.

A safe containing a 9mm Beretta, a replica gas gun, cellphones, laptops and a plasma TV was stolen. A second TV was abandoned in the yard. The victims managed to break the bathroom door after the suspects had left.

Details of the getaway vehicle could not be immediately confirmed. According to the victims, the robbers were well dressed and spoke in a foreign language.

No one was injured during the robbery.
