Police arrest two men in Ivory Park following mob justice

PARKTOWN – The District Commissioner of Ekurhuleni, Major General Vincent Leshabane says police will not tolerate any acts of mob justice following the arrest of two suspects who killed a man in the early hours of this morning in Ivory Park. The victim was stoned and fatally assaulted by the community after being accused of attempted house robbery. He died at the scene.

It is alleged that the victim tried to break into one of the houses and the occupants went out and screamed for help. The victim was caught and the community attacked him with stones and other objects. He died as a result of the injuries he sustained. Police responded to the scene and two suspects were arrested. More suspects may be arrested as investigation is continuing with the help of other community members who are distancing themselves from mob justice.

“Acts of mob justice amounts to serious and violent crimes and police will make sure that the perpetrators face the full might of the law. A team of detectives are already following all the leads to arrest accomplices. I am calling upon the members of the community to distance themselves from these acts of violence” adds General Leshabane.

The arrested suspects will face charges of murder when they appear at the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
