New born baby found in bin, mother hands herself over to police: Port Elizabeth

PORT ELIZABETH – The mother of the newborn baby found in the bin handed herself over at SAPS Humewood last night, 18 August 2019.

The 22-year-old woman handed herself over after 22:00 after appeals to trace her was circulated through the media. A case of concealment of birth is under investigation.

According to police information, on Sunday, 18 August 2019 at about 08:30, a vagrant was rummaging in a bin at the corners of Beach Road and 2nd Avenue when he saw the naked baby in the bin. The umbilical cord was still attached to the child. The baby was already dead.
