Northern Cape: Sting operation nabs six motor vehicle theft suspects in Kimberley

KIMBERLEY – Six alleged motor vehicle theft suspects were arrested in the early hours of this morning, 22 August 2019, after police pounced on them at their homes in Modderrivier, Galeshewe and Kimberley.

The sting operation was conducted by the SAPS Vehicle Crime Investigation unit and focused on motor vehicle thefts that took place the past twelve months.

The six male suspects were arrested and are currently linked to more than ten motor vehicle theft cases in the Kimberley and surrounding areas.

The operation started at about 2 am and was completed successfully five hours later. One of the six suspects was immediately taken to court as he had an outstanding warrant of arrest due to a previously alleged offence. The suspects are all aged between 22 and 41 and should be appearing in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Major General Koliswa Otola lauded the members for a job well done and thanked the community for their assistance in this regard.
