Murder suspect nabbed after eleven months on the run

DURBAN – Yesterday, KwaMashu police made a breakthrough when they arrested a man who was on the run for eleven months following a murder on Duffs Road. The arrested suspect (25) is expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

On 1 October 2018, Siphesihle Mthembu (31) was at Duffs Road in KwaMashu when he was attacked by the suspect. The victim was shot above his left eye and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. He was certified dead on arrival at the hospital and a case of murder was opened at KwaMashu police station for further investigation. The suspect has been in hiding for the past eleven months and he was eventually traced and arrested in Ntuzuma.

In another incident at KwaMashu, Public Order Police officers conducted an intelligence-driven operation at the KwaMashu Hostel, following up on information of an illegal firearm. The police officers proceeded to an identified address at the hostel where they searched the room and seized a .38 special revolver with five rounds of ammunition. A 50-year-old man was arrested and charged for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is expected to appear at the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court today.
