Swift arrest of business robbery suspects

DURBAN – Police officers from various units in Ladysmith, reacted to a call from Harrismith police with regards to a robbery that took place at a department store in their policing precinct. A description of the suspects and vehicle used by the suspects were given to the police officers. The police officers responded and began monitoring all entry and exit routes in Ladysmith.

While conducting operations, a vehicle fitting the same description given to them was spotted and intercepted while entering the Ladysmith CBD. The vehicle was searched and two unlicensed firearms with ammunition, stolen cellphones and other items were seized. Four suspects aged between 19 and 28, were arrested and charged for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as well as possession of property suspected to be stolen. They will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court before they are taken back to Harrismith to answer on the robbery charge.

Yesterday afternoon, four men entered a departmental store in Harrismith. They held up the staff with firearms and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, cell phones, clothing as well as jewellery. Harrismith police were informed of the incident and immediately contacted the surrounding stations to be on the lookout for the getaway vehicle.
