Firearm and ammunition off the street, one suspect arrested in King Williams Town

Yesterday Police arrested a 66-year-old male from Rhayi Location outside King William’s Town for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, intimidation and possession of dagga.

The arrest comes after Police were called in the location about a man who intimidated the community members with a firearm. On Police arrival they recovered AK47 rifle with magazine and sixty (60) ammunition and twenty eight (28) loose R5 rifle ammunition. On further investigation Police recovered half bag of loose dagga and twenty six (26) arms of dagga and a pistol magazine and firearm cleaning kit.
The suspect will appear at Zwelitsha Magistrate Court on Monday.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga applauded the swift response by Police members in ensuring that at least one rifle is off the streets in saving one’s life. He encouraged the members to continue with their crime prevention duties to fight crime in creating a safe and secure environment for all.
