Five men arrested for unlawful possession of abalone in Strandfontein

Our mission to enhance partnership policing led to the seizure of 435 units of abalone in Strandfontein yesterday, 04 October 2019 at about 07:45.

Members attached to Strandfontein SAPS were following up on information received from the community about illegal abalone activities in Oppermans Oord, Camp Road, Strandfontein. Upon their arrival they caught five suspects red-handed as they were busy processing abalone worth an estimated R120 000-00. The members also confiscated green nets, five cellphones, a scale, a silver Chevrolet LDV along with other equipment used to process abalone.

Five males aged between 26 and 43 were arrested and are due to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 07 October 2019 on charges relating to the Living Marine Resources Act.
