At the Awards, which were held on 23 October, Powerol announced that it had sold more than 100 industrial-grade generators in the financial year to March, its first year of operations. Since then, the company has recorded 41% growth, with all indicators pointing to a record year in the 2019/20 financial year.
Powerol is a global division of the Mahindra & Mahindra group and is represented in Southern Africa by Mahindra SA, alongside the automotive, tractor and construction equipment businesses.
“Our Powerol generators are based on engines derived from our tractors, including the well-proven Mahindra Navistar range, which means that it has world-class durability and efficiency ratings as well as some of the lowest vibration levels in the industry. It is no wonder that they have become popular in South Africa as well,” says Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa.
Mahindra is the world’s largest manufacturer of tractors and is renowned for the durability and low cost of ownership of its range of agricultural equipment. This has definitely benefitted Powerol, which supplies the United Nations and telecommunication providers in Middle Eastern countries. Here the generators are often required to run non-stop in temperatures exceeding 55 degrees centigrade.
Powerol provides a range of heavy-duty installed generators with power ratings ranging from 5 kVA to 320 kVA and supplies assembly kits to several own-brand generator builders in South Africa. It offers service intervals that range from 250 hours to 1 000 hours and has a national footprint.
“For the year ahead, our focus will be on expanding our coverage in smaller towns and outlying regions, further strengthening our after-sales network, while also introducing industry-specific solutions to sectors such as telecommunications,” says Rajesh.
In India, Powerol has a 63% market share in the telecommunications sector, where the rural nature of many cellular base stations requires constant power generation and long periods between services.
Powerol also awarded its best performing Powerol dealers. These dealers were not only measured on their sales success, but also on their ability to provide fit-for-purpose solutions and good after-sales service.
