Suspects apprehended for possession of suspected stolen property and drug trafficking

WESTERN CAPE – The effective response of our members have led to the arrest of several suspects on charges related to the possession of suspected stolen property and drug trafficking. Members attached to Strand SAPS received information from the complainant that his stolen property was being advertised as for sale on Facebook. The stolen property had previously been reported stolen by the complainant following an incident that occurred earlier this year at Jeftha Street, Strand when items were taken from his motor vehicle.

Members immediately verified and followed up on the information provided by the complainant which subsequently led them to a house at Jacobs Avenue, Strand. The members conducted a search on the premises and discovered some of the stolen property. All recovered property amounting to R500, 000 and was positively identified by the complainant.

Two male suspects, aged 22 and 34, were subsequently arrested and will be charged with the initial theft out of the motor vehicle and the possession of the suspected stolen property.

They are expected to appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 2019-10-24, on mentioned charges.

In a separate incident, members of Gordon’s Bay police received a tip-off from an anonymous source about a white Toyota Yaris Sedan that was on its way to make a big delivery of drugs. Members responded by patrolling Lancaster Street where they sighted the mentioned vehicle this morning, 2019-10-23, at around 10:00. As they approached it in an attempt to pull it over, the vehicle sped off. A high-speed chase ensued and ultimately ended when the driver of the suspected vehicle lost control and rolled in Sir Lowry Road near a dumping site.

The members found a substantial amount of drugs on the scene and arrested the driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old male. The suspect is expected to make a court appearance on charges related to drug trafficking.

The Western Cape SAPS management commended the members for their commitment to bring the perpetrators to book.
