Syndicate accosted with hijacked vehicles in Pinetown

Police officers from Chatsworth SAPS and Durban Metropolitan Police together with officials from Tracker, conducted an operation in Pinetown to follow up on intelligence with regards to a vehicle stolen at Amanzimtoti.

Investigations by the team led them to Trafalgar Place in Pinetown where the stolen vehicle was recovered.
A total of five suspects, aged between 25 and 36, were placed under arrest. During a further search of the premises, three additional stolen vehicles were discovered. Preliminary investigations revealed that two of the vehicles that were seized were hijacked at Pinetown whilst the third vehicle was seized for further investigation.

Police seized a number of bags containing car breaking implements from the arrested suspects. Two passports and R50,100-00 in cash were confiscated from the suspects. The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrates Court tomorrow facing charges for being in possession of suspected stolen property as well as possession of car breaking implements. The suspects will also be profiled to establish their links to hijacking and theft of motor vehicle cases in the province.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the team for the arrests and seizures. “This type of multi-disciplinary operations are welcomed. We are confident that detectives will be able to link this group to other vehicle crimes in KwaZulu-Natal,’’ he said.
