Explosives seized during festive season operation

DURBAN – On 27 November 2019, a multidisciplinary operation was conducted in the Zululand Cluster. The operation began last night and continued until the early hours of this morning.

Police proceeded to a homestead at Klipwal in Pongola that was used by illegal miners. The suspects were not at the house however during a search of the home police found 23 sticks of explosives as well as a gas cylinder. A black plastic bag containing loose dagga was also recovered. Investigations are still continuing to trace the suspects who opened the explosives.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the team for the recovery of explosives. “We also encourage the community to continue working with us in the fight against crime by reporting all criminal related incidents to the police,” he said.

“Anyone with information on criminal activities is encouraged to make use of the MySAPSApp by downloading the App on any iPhone or android. Informers may call the SAPS Crime Stop number ‪086 00 10111,” he added.
