Members of operation lockdown seized unlicensed firearm and a stolen vehicle in Philippi area

WESTERN CAPE – Our commitment to seize unlicensed firearms in the Western Cape continue to yield success when the members of Operation Lockdown acted on information received from a concerned community member about a vehicle that was roaming around in the area occupied by an unknown man who was seen carrying a firearm yesterday, 11 November 2019 at about 17:30 at Nondlwana Road, Lower Crossroad, Philippi East. The alert members spotted the vehicle at the mentioned address and upon conducting a further search in the vehicle they found an unlicensed 9mm firearm with 18 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect, aged 28, was arrested and he is expected to make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrate Court once charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.

In an unrelated incident, the members also discovered a stolen vehicle in Siyazenzela, Browns Farm, Philippi yesterday. The members were conducting crime prevention operation duties (foot patrols) in the area when they spotted the vehicle, a green Toyota Conquest reported stolen in Wynberg early this month abandoned and the suspects are still at large.
