R5 Million worth of drugs seized in Laingsburg

WESTERN CAPE- SAPS endeavours and determination to curb the illegal drug trade in the Western Cape Province continue to yield positive results. Vigilant police members attached to Laingsburg SAPS and Laingsburg Provincial Traffic team were busy conducting an operation on the N1 when they spotted a silver utility LDV yesterday, 23 November 2019 at about 13:40. It is alleged that the vehicle was from Johannesburg heading to Cape Town.

The members stopped the vehicle and upon conducting a further search they discovered 15 sealed bags of tik (crystal meth) wrapped in black recycling bags hidden in a compartment inside the vehicle. The drugs weighing 16 kilograms are estimated to be worth R5.6 million. The consignment and vehicle were handed in as exhibits

A 27-year-old suspect was arrested and he will appear in the Laingsburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 November 2019, on charges of dealing in drugs. It is believed the consignment of drugs was destined for Cape Town.
