Mom and two kids injured in single vehicle collision on the N1 near the Grasmere Toll Plaza

A 7-year-old boy has been seriously injured, his older sister moderately injured and his mother suffered minor injuries after they lost control of their vehicle and collided with a light post on the N1 near the Grasmere Toll Plaza this afternoon.

An off-duty police officer was first on scene and he flagged down a passing JMPD vehicle. ER24 paramedics arrived at 14:45 along with other services to find that the boy, who had been seated in the front passenger seat, had suffered the most serious injuries. He was treated with Advanced Life Support interventions, immobilised and flown by a private medical helicopter to a private hospital for further care.

The daughter, believed to be about 8 years of age, was also immobilised and treated on scene before being taken by another private service to a Bheki Mlangeni District Hospital. The mother was treated and taken by ER24 to Lillian Ngoyi Community Health Centre for further care.

The cause of this incident is unknown to ER24.
